CIBJO Board approves establishment of Trade Fair Commission, to be headed by Executive Director of Fiera di Vicenza

VICENZA, ITALY: MAY 21, 2012 - The Board of Directors of CIBJO has unanimously approved the establishment of a Trade Fair Commission, which will be charged with liaising with and among the various trade shows that serve the international jewelllery industry.

Voting at the meeting that concluded the 2012 CIBJO Congress in Vicenza, the board appointed Corrado Facco, Executive Director of Fiera di Vicenza, Italy's largest jewellery trade fair organiser, to chair the new body. He will be charged with bringing into the commission the representatives of jewellery trade show organisers from around the world.

Mr. Facco is both a legal an international relations expert, with extensive experience in the organisation and operation of trade fairs, both in Italy and in other countries. He also is a published author, having edited and produced a series of business guides focusing on Eastern Europe and the Asian markets, including China.

"This is a vitally important body, for trade shows represent a critical platform for members of our industry to meet and interact with clients and suppliers," said CIBJO President Gaetano Cavalieri. "They have a profound influence on how we perform, and how we manage our activities. The Trade Show Commission will establish a dialogue for the benefit of the industry and the shows, and Corrado is perfectly equipped to handle the role of commission president."

"It is a privilege to be offered the position," said Mr. Facco. "While the various trade shows operate within similar markets, I prefer not see to see it as competition between our organisations, but rather 'coopetition.' There are areas in which we all have common interests, so as to best to serve our the entire global industry, such as with Corporate Social Responsibility, eco-sustainability, and more. I hope that as many of my colleagues will join this new body."

The 2012 CIBJO Congress took place between May 17 and 20, and was hosted by the Fiera di Vicenza, Italy's leading jewellery trade show company, in the framework the World Jewellery Forum.

CIBJO is the international jewellery confederation of national trade organizations. CIBJO's purpose is to encourage harmonization, promote international cooperation in the jewellery industry and to consider issues which concern the trade worldwide. CIBJO's chief mission is to protect consumer confidence in the industry.
