NIREM chalks out plans to introduce professionalism in property business

Launches Real Estate Management Programs

Real estate and property market in India is regularly accused of hidden transactions, violation of consumer rights and such other unethical activities. However, the basic reason behind all these activities is lack of professionalism in this sector, which comes through training of existing professionals and proper education and grooming of fresh graduates who intend to join this sector. Unfortunately, in India we don't have any system of education and training of existing as well as potential real estate professionals. Therefore, despite fast growth and development of Indian property market, lack professionalism is still a cause of concern.

On the other hand, internationalization of Indian real estate market and introduction of innovative financial , marketing and customer servicing tools during the last few years have created the need for a new breed of real estate professionals, who have studied real estate as a subject. However as discussed above, there is no system of real estate education in India, even though the sector contributes significantly to the national GDP and is the second largest employer in the country.

Taking note of the prevailing situation, IDS National Institute of Real Estate Management (IDS NIREM), www.nirem.org, set up by the industry development society for real estate as chalked out a comprehensive strategy to develop human resource for the India real estate market. The institute has planned to develop MBAs and graduates as functional experts in different areas of real estate such as property sales & leasing, brokerage management, real estate marketing, commercial real estate, appraisal & valuation, finance ,  investment etc.

In order to produce these functional experts, NIREM has planned to launch real estate management programs in the areas of sales & leasing, property brokerage management, real estate marketing, commercial real estate, appraisal & valuation, finance, investment, facilities management etc.

At present, NIREM has launched PG Diploma in Real Estate Sales and Agency Management, Real Estate Marketing and Commercial Real Estate and are being offered through distance mode.  These real estate courses are targeted at fresh MBAs and graduates as well as existing real estate professionals with few years of work experience.

The institute is currently admitting students in its real estate sales and agency management course. This course aims to provide the participants with thorough knowledge and practical skills to plan and execute successful sales & leasing strategies for different types of properties, plan & manage real estate agencies and carry out basic appraisal.

According to the institute, through its different short and long term programs, NIREM aims to provide the real estate sector with approximately one thousand trained professionals as functional experts in different areas of real estate during the year 2010. According to the institute, these trained professionals will not only reduce the manpower shortage but also bring professionalism and transparency in real estate business.
